There are 20 destroyed shrines scattered across Vale Sangora. They were smashed on Brencis’s orders because he sees them as false idols competing with the Blood Covenant, his vampiric religion. Restoring them gives you back fast-travel points and the stash + skill trainer functions that come with each wayside shrine.
The quest type is officially called “Destroyed Shrines: A Hidden Shrine” in the journal, and each restoration costs 1 time segment. Some shrines are caught mid-destruction (you see guards in the act); others are already destroyed and need only inspection + restoration.
Why Restoring Shrines Matters
Each wayside shrine is fast travel, stash, wait bench, and skill trainer rolled into one. Destroyed shrines lose all four functions. Once restored, you get:
- Fast travel between the shrine and any other previously discovered shrine.
- Stash access — transfer items between your inventory and the central storage chest at that shrine.
- Wait bench — skip the time of day, useful for syncing Volk visits, the Night of Horrors trigger, or any quest that requires a specific phase.
- Skill trainer — spend Skill Points on perks. This is the main reason you need shrines restored: there is no other place to spend Skill Points in the game.
Restoration is also a lore beat — the villages consider shrines important, and a restored shrine represents a small victory against Brencis’s anti-religious campaign.

How To Find And Restore A Destroyed Shrine
Each destroyed shrine has the same flow:
- Travel to the marked region (the world map shows a “Destroyed Shrine” question mark).
- Inspect the shrine in focus mode. The interaction prompt reads “Inspect destroyed shrine.”
- Restore the shrine. The interaction prompt reads “Restore shrine.” This costs 1 time segment.
- The shrine joins your fast-travel network immediately. No further cost.
Some shrines are caught in the act — you arrive to see Brencis’s soldiers smashing the shrine. Fight the soldiers, inspect the shrine, restore. Other shrines are pre-destroyed and only need inspection + restoration.
The shrine’s icon on the map changes from a destroyed icon (broken stone) to an active icon (intact shrine with a small flame).

Recommended Restoration Order
Not all shrines are equally valuable early. The community-tested priority order is:
Priority 1 (restore immediately, week 1):
- Laslea outskirts (#1)
- Maragir Crossroads approach (#10)
- Maragir Monastery path (#11)
- Parlita outskirts (#12)
- St. Tyna’s Grove (#19)
These five unlock fast travel for the entire Buried Past quest chain (Pieter’s treasure, Volk’s hut, monastery visit). Without them, the quest takes 2-3 extra segments of walking.
Priority 2 (restore before week 2):
- Briar Sloughs north (#4)
- Briar Sloughs south (#5)
- Tantari Woods west (#8)
- Tantari Woods east (#9)
- Anca’s Hut path (#18)
These unlock the Wisp Treasure Hunts and the mid-game Witchcraft / Vampirism quest chain.
Priority 3 (restore as you explore):
- The remaining 10 shrines, restored as you naturally pass through their regions.

Time Cost
1 time segment per shrine. Restoring all 20 costs 20 segments total if you do them back-to-back. Realistically, you restore them as you explore, so the time cost blends into your natural traversal.
Time-efficient strategy: Plan a restoration loop per region — pick up all the destroyed shrines in one area in a single visit, then fast-travel to the next. The 20-segment cost drops to ~10-12 segments of “real” time cost because some shrines are on the way to other quests.

Common Mistakes
- Restoring shrines without unlocking fast travel first. A restored shrine only joins the network once you have inspected it AND fast-traveled to it once. If you restore it but never fast-travel to it, you cannot use it as a fast-travel destination.
- Fighting the soldiers instead of bypassing them. For the shrines that are caught mid-destruction, the soldiers are 3-5 enemies. You can sneak past them with a Witchcraft invisibility spell or a Vampirism Shadowstep, save the fight for after the shrine is restored.
- Forgetting to inspect in focus mode. The “Inspect” prompt only appears in focus mode. Outside focus mode, the destroyed shrine looks like terrain.
- Restoring during the wrong time of day. Some shrine quests have a day-only or night-only trigger. Check the journal entry before restoring — if it says “Day only,” wait at a shrine until day.
